Building an inground pool is probably one of the most expensive home upgrades you can make. It's always upsetting to me when I see shoddy workmanship. The homeowner is making a tremendous investment. They put their trust and cash in the hands of the builder that is supposed to make their dreams come true. And let's face it, that's why homeowners decide to build a custom pool to begin with, to capture that vision of the American dream.
They want the Clark Griswold moment where they invision their family and friends happily splashing in the backyard. It's a serious moment of actualization for alot of homeowners that they have invested their hopes and dreams in someone only to have it all come crashing down when it comes down to execution.
Here are some of the primary reasons that an inground pool project can go sideways.
1. Deciding to be your own pool contractor and build the pool yourself. Unless you are an expert at construction, I'd highly advise against doing this.
2. Hiring a pool contractor based on the cheapest bid. This is probably the #1 mistake I seem homeowners make and it winds up costing them dearly.
3. Not checking pool company reviews before choosing a pool builder. Reviews will often tell you everything you need to know just based on prior customer feedback.
These poor homeowners have a look on their face like they don't know what just happened. Shoddy workmanship like this is what gives pool builders a bad name. I wouldn't know what to say to a homeowner if something like this happened. I mean where do you go from here? I'm sorry your pool liner is a complete trainwreck?
Don't buy pools that come off at the wrong time, buy Maurie's wigs! I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't joke, but this is just a cluster. I mean is this common in pool building or is the a new feature that I'm not aware of yet or what? Pools that levitate 6 feet out of the ground is not a pool feature that I would normally request. In fact, let's scrub that one from the feature list altogether.
When the homeowner built this pool, I bet they never imagined that one day they would say.. ok, I didn't empty the pool, still has the cover on. So nothing weird going on with the hydrostatic valve, but uh yeah my pool is levitating. Don't hire a pool company that has a history of missteps like this. Do your due diligence like you would when hiring anyone else and research a pool builder thoroughly before you pull the trigger and hire some bozo that builds pools like this.
Stop Doing This To Families
My message for fly by night pool builders that don't know what the heck they are doing... stop doing this to families. You're not a pool builder, you're a con artist. You're taking peoples hopes and dreams and crushing them. Stop doing that. If you don't know a thing about pool construction, stick to what you're good at.
